In John Hoke's New York Times interview, it is apparent that you are part of a collaborative effort when you are designing products for as large a company as Nike. You are just one of the hundreds, possibly thousands, of people who could be contributing to a single project. This makes it important to keep your creative juices flowing and to always be coming up with ideas. With so many people involved, if you hit a creative roadblock it's very easy to get left behind. For the Chief of Design at Nike, John Hoke, drawing is a way for him to ensure that he is constantly thinking of something new. Even if his ideas aren't functional or have nothing to do with Nike's product line he is still training his brain to constantly be thinking ahead. This can be seen in the success Nike has had and how diversely creative their product lines are.
